Les bestioles du World Press Photo 2016
Chaque année, la fondation The World Press Photo récompense et promeut le travail de photojournalistes dans plusieurs catégories : vie quotidienne, projets à long termes, sports… Dans chacune, des photos uniques et des séries sont primées.
Le palmarès vient d’être annoncé, les gagnants ont été sélectionnés parmi 5 775 photographes, venus de 128 pays différents, qui ont proposé 82 951 photos.
L’une de ces catégories est dédiée à la Nature et on y retrouve évidemment des… bestioles.

Anuar Patjane Floriuk a photographié des plongeurs autour d’une baleine à bosse Megaptera novaeangliae et son nouveau-né, dans le Pacifique, au large du Mexique.

Le 1er prix pour une série a été attribué à Tim Laman pour son reportage sur la vie, et la survie, des orangs-outans en Indonésie où ils sont menacés par les incendies, le commerce illégal d’animaux, la déforestation. Plusieurs singes sont orphelins et accueillis dans ces centres de réhabilitation.

Le 2ème prix pour une série a été attribué à Brent Stirton pour son travail sur les guerres de l’ivoire. Le trafic illégal de cette matière enrichit les groupes rebelles, notamment l’Armée de résistance du Seigneur (Lord’s Resistance Army) qui sévit en Ouganda et en République démocratique du Congo, mais aussi les rebelles Seleka en République Centrafricaine, les Janjawid du Soudan… Les populations locales sont aussi victimes de ce trafic.

Le 3ème prix pour une série a été décerné à Christian Ziegler pour son reportage sur la diversité des caméléons de Madagascar, une diversité menacée par la déforestation. On estime que la moitié des espèces sont en danger.
